Welcome to The Cave Place. I am so glad you are here. My name is Katie Waters and I started this site to a place for Christian teenagers and young adults to talk about mental illness in a real way. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder when I was 16 and it turned my world upside down. I had a strong faith, supportive family, and an amazing Christian therapist. However, it still took me 10 years to release myself from the guilt of having a mental illness. Messages of shame and blame got stuck in my head along the way in the form of sermons, blogs, or conversations with family and friends.
I want you to know that God is looking down at you and is heartbroken that you feel shame and confusion about your mental illness. And He's sad that other Christians might have contributed to this. God loves you and gave up His own life so you could feel free. I don't know your story and I don't know what will help you, but I want The Cave Place to be a space where we provide information and support that gets at the complexity of mental illness and gives you hope. I hope this site brings you freedom.
